One of Ireland’s most famous natural wonders

The Gap of Dunloe

Nestled between the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks and the Purple Mountains, this spectacular 11 km route winds gently through a dramatic mountain pass, passing vast lakes, ancient stone bridges, tumbling waterfalls and sheep-dotted hillsides.

The classic route stretches from Kate Kearney’s Cottage to Lord Brandon’s Cottage and follows a narrow mountain road through the valley. The walk is mostly a gentle but steady climb and requires no technical skills, just comfortable walking shoes and time to take it all in.

Along the way, you’ll encounter:

Five beautiful lakes, each more dramatic than the last
Stone bridges and cascading waterfalls
Rolling hillsides dotted with sheep
Towering peaks that close in as the gap narrows

The Lakes of Killarney

Travel by boat through the majestic Lakes of Killarney and Killarney National Park, where you can marvel at the ancient oak woodlands of the Upper Lake and the historic Old Weir Bridge. If conditions allow, the boat may even ‘shoot the rapids,’ leading you to the famous Meeting of the Waters, where the three lakes converge.

Pass under the Toothache Bridge into the Middle Lake, where you’ll witness the stunning views of Torc Mountain and the legendary Colleen Bawn Rock. Keep your eyes on the sky, you might be lucky enough to spot the magnificent White-Tailed Eagles soaring above the mountains.
